About Us

Women & Environment Development Society (WEDS)

WEDS has also taken up the soil and water conversation activities on large scale and as major step working in Koppal District in Karnataka

The WEDS Organization is working in 57 villages of Koppal District by having the local level organizations, SHG’s & JLG’s. At present, the organization is also taken up the Watershed Program from NABARD & covering over 800 hectors of land in Koppal taluk to help the small and marginal farmers and also the landless laborers in the Watershed covered villages. Besides this, the organization is also working with microfinance and manpower agency by supplying manpower to the local Government departments and also meeting the local demands by providing the services of manpower. With this, the SHG's families are leading a normal and dignified life in the society. The migration has been reduced and the family members are staying together to lead a normal life by taking up the income generation programs to earn their livelihood and to lead a dignified life.

Quarantine Center

Quarantine Center facility has been made for the suspected and confirmed Covid-19 patients in Koppal by our NGO.During the pandemic situation many livelihoods were staked as they had no availability towards work, foodand shelter. Keeping this in mind our organization took a small step towards it and provided the facilitated qurantine centers.This saw a great success.

Development of Horticulture under the World Bank, watershed Program

During this program, the farmers were educated on growing of Mango and Sapota plants. The farmers were also educated on the pit digging, manure applying, staking, on the pest control and also on taking care of the plants including timely watering, etc. During this program, 360 farmers have been covered from 8 villages in 2 taluks.

NABARD Jinnapura watershed project

We were able to get the watershed program from NABARD to cover 951 hectares of land for the treatment by covering 4 villages in Jinnapura and surrounding other 3 villages. In the initial stages, the household survey has been done in all the 4 villages and the total households covered are 650 nos. The net planning has been got completed in all the 951 hectares of land by covering 646 farmers in the watershed locality. The major objective of the watershed program is to have soil and water conservation and to improve the soil quality to have the more production with less water.

Development of floriculture under watershed program

The second important project we are conducting is floriculture by covering 8 members in Koppal taluk under NABARD watershed project. All the 8 beneficiaries are planted jasmine, merry gold, and shevanthige and now the plants are yielding flowers and having good income. The marketing arrangements have been done and the agents themselves will come and collect the flowers from the field and the payment is done once in a week. The economic status of the beneficiaries has improved and the families are progressing well. Besides this, we have also helped these beneficiaries by providing cows to 4 members and the Ram bulla sheep to 4 members towards their livelihood activities. All the 8 beneficiaries have taken care of the animals and earning a good income and their economic status has improved a lot.

IWMP watershed project

The IWMP project has been taken up during the period 2014 to 2016 to create awareness on animal husbandry and also conducting of health check-up camps for the animals in the selected villages of Kushtagi, Yalaburga, and Koppal taluks. The project has been taken from the watershed department, the government of Karnataka. During the period, 36 health checks up camps were conducted with the cooperation of the veterinary department. Before conducting the camps, the villages were selected and the handbills were got distributed and the dates were fixed to conduct the cams in the villages.
