About Us

Women & Environment Development Society (WEDS)

Our NGO empowers rural communities, reduces migration, and improves livelihoods through sustainable agriculture and microfinance, fostering dignity and self-reliance.

The WEDS Organization, established in 2001 in Koppal District, Karnataka, is actively working in 57 villages across the district by forming and supporting local-level organizations, Self-Help Groups (SHGs), and Joint Liability Groups (JLGs). Currently, the organization has also undertaken a Watershed Program in collaboration with NABARD, covering over 800 hectares of land in Koppal Taluk. This initiative aims to support small and marginal farmers, as well as landless laborers, in the watershed-covered villages.
In addition to this, the organization is involved in microfinance and manpower services, supplying skilled manpower to local government departments and meeting community needs by providing manpower services. As a result of these efforts, families involved in SHGs are now leading normal and dignified lives within society. Migration from the area has decreased, and family members stay together, engaging in income-generating activities that help them earn a livelihood and live with dignity.

The training focused on effective implementation strategies to enhance water conservation and soil management. Participants gained insights into the crucial role of watershed development in sustaining agriculture and improving local ecosystems. The program included practical sessions on methods to prevent soil erosion and improve water retention in agricultural lands. By the end of the program, participants were well-equipped with the skills needed to apply these strategies in their communities, promoting sustainable agricultural practices.

Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) Training Program

The WEDS Gadag team conducted a Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) training program across five villages, focusing on water budget planning, crop water budgeting, and common resource development. The training emphasized optimizing water usage in agriculture through strategic allocation, helping farmers make informed irrigation decisions. Practical activities during the sessions empowered the community with skills in resource management, promoting sustainable and resilient agricultural practices.
